Mobile’s Bobby Wyatt Put On A Dazzling Show That Left The Entire Course Spinning

One of the greatest performances in the history of golf took place in Mobile by a teenager just shy of his 18th birthday.

The Country Club of Mobile was the stage for one of the finest performances in the history of golf Wednesday.

golf course“It was just one of those days that just happens. Everything goes in,” said witness Robin Wyatt.

One eagle. Twelve birdies. Fourteen under par. Fifty-seven total strokes. Mobile’s Bobby Wyatt put on a dazzling show that left the entire course spinning.

“I got on 12th tee, and I realized I’m doing something special here, so I tried to stay focused,” said Wyatt after his historical performance.

Wyatt’s second round 57 broke the course and state boys junior championship records. In the history of tournament golf, there’s only been one score lower than the 17-year-old’s 57. Homero Blancas posted a score of 55 in 1962

However, the Guinness Book of World Records only recognizes courses that are more than 6,500 yards in length, and Blancas performed his deed on a course just north of 5,000 yards. So Wyatt’s performance could set a Guinness World Record for best round of golf in a tournament competition.

“I have so much respect for the game and to be in the history books, it’s something special,” said Wyatt.

During Wyatt’s record breaking performance, he didn’t spend much time on the green, just 23 putts for the entire day.

“I’ve been working on it all summer, and haven’t had hardly any putts fall for me, and to have them all fall in one day, it was a rewarding experience,” the former UMS Wright star said.

“He has great work ethic and he has not played as well as he hoped this summer,” said Robin Wyatt, his proud mother. “I just wanted him to have a good round, the rest was just gravy on top.”

Gravy for the Alabama-signee was drilling an 18-foot birdie on the 18th hole to cap his fourth straight state championship.

“I’m sure as I get older, I’ll start to reflect on this and realize what I did, but for now, it’s just a good round for me and I’m gonna keep going,” added Wyatt.

As he already proved, Wyatt can go pretty low.

The 17-year-old shot a 70 in the final round to win his fourth straight overall title and seventh consecutive age division championship.
